Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Steele and employes the Asheville -Times Publishing Company. A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Clouse was the son of the late J. H.
and Anna Holcombe Clouse. Mr. Clouse came to work for The Citizen in 1923 when he was 14 years old. He worked 49 years and 11 months. For one 15-year period, he held three jobs simultaneously; seven nights a week in the mailing room, four days a week as treasurer of the company's credit union and 10 to 12 hours relief per week in the wire room.
In 1961, Mr. Clouse became foreman of The Citizen mailing room. At the time he retired, he was one of only six employes who were working when The Citizen and The Times merged in 1930. He retired Sept. 16, 1973 at the age of 64.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Katherine Clouse; a son, Phillip G. Clouse of the home; two daughters, Misses Robbie and Carol Clouse of Asheville; a brother, J. H. Clouse of Memphis, and a sister, Mrs.
H. S. Carter of Idaho. The family will be at the home. N.
Eric Bell, retired State Farm Insurance executive and noted economist of $6 Montrose died Tuesday in an Asheville hospital after an illness of several months. He was 80. A native of Lenoir County, Mr. Bell attended Kinston public schools and was graduate of North Carolina State University with a B. S.
degree in Chemical Engineering and LaSalle Extension University with a degree in Banking and Finance. Associated with the Alabama-U. S. Joint Soil Surveys for several years, serving as an analytical chemist, he was responsible for a number of maps and other works contributing to the advancement of soil conservation and agricultural development. He had served in various capacities in Alabama and Louisiana in promoting the growing of food for the war effort in World War I and with Metropolitan Insurance Co.

ton Chamber of Commerce, Lieut. Governor of the Kiwanis District and was involved in a number organizations. of fraternal and civic Mr. Bell retired in 1962 and moved to Asheville in 1950. He had active in the First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday teacher.
Mr. Bell was the organizer and first president of the Asheville chapter, American Association of Retired Persons, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Harvest House, Men's Garden Club and served as an advisor to Mars Hill College and insurance counselor for senior citizens. During the past 20 years, Mr. Bell conducted research in personal and national economics and wrote several booklets on his findings, including "A Research into Successful which is widely distributed, and "Grass Roots Economics, which was brought to the attention of President John F. Kennedy.
In 1960, Mr. Bell served as a member of the late Sheriff Lawrence E. Brown's censorship committee on objectionable publications. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Grace Johnson Bell; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Bell's only son, by a previous marriage, Dr. Eric Bell died April 15, 1975. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Asheville.

M. D. Smith Dies; Noted 'Mountain Minister' The Rev. M. D.
Smith, 68, of Cross Road, Candler, died Tuesday in an Asheville hospital. A widely known Baptist minister, Rev. Smith served as pastor of the Hominy Baptist Church for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1970. Since retirement, he has served as interim pastor at Flat Creek, Madison Seminary, Antioch and Calvary Baptist Church in Canton. A former moderator of the Buncombe Baptist Association, he was a former member of the N.
C. Baptist Convention General Board and was present chairman of the finance committee of the Buncombe Baptist Association. A native of Mooresville, he was son of the late Thomas D. and Cora Beaver Smith. He was educated at Mars Hill College and completed special seminary courses prior to assuming the pastorate of Hominy Baptist Church.
Rev. Smith was cited as the outstanding "mountain minister" by Clear Creek Baptist Church in Pineville, in recognition of the outstanding achievements of his rural church. He served in community and civic affairs and was a member of the Candler Lions Club and the Buncombe Baptist Ministerial Association. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mamie Stillwell Smith; three daughters, Mrs.
