Suspect apprehended, charged
STOCK PHOTO From Enterprise Staff Christopher Lee JamesA suspect with pending warrants now faces additional charges following an incident that occurred May 23 at a residence in the Shelter Cove subdivision off Scenic Loop. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to serve felony warrants on Christopher Lee James, 40 of Livingston. Upon arrival, deputies identified the subject and began giving him instructions to exit the residence. He failed to comply, barricading himself in a rear bedroom with his wife and two minor children. As deputies and detectives surrounded the residence, James exited the bedroom. Officers entered the home, and he was taken into custody without incident. James was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering or fabricating physical evidence. Three active warrants were served on him for bail jumping/failure to appear, bond forfeiture/possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
Hurricane researchers predicting ‘extremely active’ year
By Chris [emailprotected] Saturday, June 1 marks the beginning of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, and the consensus from researchers is that this will be an active year, courtesy of La Nina. According to recently released predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service, there is an 85% chance of an above normal season for tropical activity. An El Nino pattern has been in control of weather patterns since June of last year, however, the transition into La Nina status, as expected, could result in decreased wind shear, which is the change in wind speed and/or direction with height. Experts state that this factor could help enhance development of hurricanes across formation zones. Reports from Colorado State University (CSU) hurricane researchers noted that 2024 held the highest prediction rate for named storms that the team had ever issued, and that if it were accurate, the National Hurricane Center would use…
