Is 8 Mile legit? ›

As most of you already have heard, this movie was based on Eminem's life, but none of the events are actually factual. His relationship with his mother (Basinger) is much more amiable than it is in real life, or at least how it comes across in his music.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, a film has a rating of 100% if each professional review recorded by the website is assessed as positive rather than negative.

8 Mile is essentially a cinematic translation of Eminem's early struggles, but like any adaptation, it blends reality with creative liberties.

It's an average movie, the rap battles are very entertaining and I really liked Eminem's ascension to the top but it did feel slow at times, the story is directionless and the pacing is disjointed. Eminem turned out to be a pretty decent actor. I love battle raps. Honestly he's one of if not the best to ever do it!

There was a real rap battle on set

Over 100 people entered the contest and were given 15 seconds to rap before an assembled jury. The top-four rappers all got to be in the movie and go against Eminem in a rap battle in the film.
